There has been no shortage of impressive South Australia properties hitting the market in 2024, but some caught househunters’ eyes more than others.
From luxury mansions to Hills retreats, there was a property for every type of cashed-up buyer.
A grand Leabrook mansion that once played host to British royalty was the most-viewed property on realestate.com.au over the past year, achieving close to 80,000 online views.
The home is expected to set a new state record when it sells, eclipsing the current $13.5m record set by a North Adelaide mansion.
The family home of almost 70 years of the late Elizabeth “Bardie” Penfold Simpson and Tom Simpson offers plenty of character charm and room to move on its whopping 6496sqm allotment.
The late couple, who are both household names in the whitegoods and wine industries, bought the 1890-built bluestone villa shortly after they were married in the ’50s, with Mrs Penfold Simpson’s eldest grandson Tom Simpson, who is selling the estate with his extended family, saying it was their pride and joy.

“They were both incredibly proud of this property and it was a special space to them and one they relished sharing with others,” he said.
“In the ’80s she (Bardie) was even contacted and asked if she’d be interested in hosting the Duke and Duchess of York, and they spent five nights at the property.”
The 1890-built bluestone villa – which has a formal sitting room, a formal dining room, five bedrooms, a library, a grand entry foyer, casual dining and living areas and a cellar – is surrounded by botanic gardens-like grounds over two titles and is complete with a pool, a tennis court and a two-bedroom caretakers residence.
The property is for sale through Jamie Brown of Booth Real Estate.
Could this be the last residential development opportunity on East Terrace? It’s selling agent certainly thinks so and it is, perhaps, for this reason the home has been viewed more than 63,000 times online since launching to the market.
Considered the most prestigious and enviable park front position in Adelaide, the home affords enormous potentials, to either refurbish the existing Art Deco family residence, once owned by News Corp’s own Rupert Murdoch, or further develop the 519sqm allotment.
The existing home also offers great character appeal, with voluminous light-filled living and entertaining zones, both inside and out, which could be further enhanced, with utilizing fabulous concept illustrations by Fiona Lynch Interior Design (VIC), being made available to the incoming purchaser.
The property has a price guide of $4.25m to $4.5m and is for sale through Jamie Brown of Booth Real Estate.

“Ours is a house where everyone seems to come to – whether it be on weekends, after school, and later for pre-drinks before nights out and as a place to stay after,” she said.
“It has always been full of people and, as our sons are both very active, it was great that they had space to enjoy the pool, the basketball and tennis courts and the lawns.”

4. 4 Everglade Court, Golden Grove
It comes as no surprise that this Hollywood-style mansion was one of SA’s most viewed listings in 2024. After all, it did set a new price record for Golden Grove, blowing the previous benchmark away by close to $1m.
The six-bedroom, five-bathroom home sold for $2.8m in a runaway-success, according to selling agent Shaun Roberts of LJ Hooker Property Specialists.
“It’s a pretty stunning property and looks a bit like the Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“We had a lot of interest (in the home) and in the end it was a pretty quick sale because a buyer came through and absolutely fell in love with it.
“He and his wife viewed the property and just were adamant that they had to have it.
“And so a deal was struck and obviously the price (guide) was met and the vendors were happy to proceed with that.”
