Media royalty Ray Martin, Australia’s most honoured television personality, has quietly sold his Sydney home of 34 years for more than $8m.

Since 1990 he and his family have been living in Finisterre, a five-bedroom house with pool at Waverton on Sydney’s North Shore, walking distance to Waverton Station and Victoria Cross Metro.

The McHatton St house, on 798 sqm of land came to market on New Year’s Day and sold two weeks later for between $8m and $8.5m. Ray and his wife of more than 50 years, Dianne, had paid $900,000 for the original 1930s home back in 1990.

The Martins lived at the address for 34 years.

The Martins have been very private about their Sydney home where they raised two children, Jenna and Luke.

The couple also owned a property on the Sunshine Coast paying $250,000 for a house in Coolum in 2001 and selling it in 2022 for $2.65m.

Their Waverton house has due north to rear aspect, an outdoor terrace for entertaining, and a glass-framed mosaic pool and skylit pool house with kitchenette.

Peter Chauncey, of McGrath, had the listing and negotiated the prompt sale.

Waverton is a northside Sydney harbourside suburb that also flies under radar. There are just 411 houses in the suburb, fewer than 10 trade in a year meaning the median house price is rarely recorded.
