Despite boasting $300m in career earnings, tennis legend Novak Djokovic could live out his quieter days in a modest $900,000 home.

Tennis great Novak Djokovic has tallied up more than US$185m ($299m) in career earnings but he could live out his retirement in a humble US$675,000 home.

The 37-year-old Serbian is currently on a quest to secure what would be his 25th major title win at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

He has won 99 singles titles and is the only man in history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at the same time across three different surfaces.

But despite his success, it seems Djokovic may prefer the simpler things in life.

With his legendary tennis career closer to its end than beginning, Djokovic has purchased a modest penthouse in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, where he could spend his quieter days when his time as an elite sportsman comes to a close.

According to Tennis World USA, Djokovic bought the three-bedroom penthouse nine years ago for $1.091m. It is a price very similar to January’s median dwelling price for Sydney which was $1,106,000 according to PropTrack.

At the time of purchase, Djokovic’s unit would have cost around $900,000.

He shared a welcome party with his fellow Serbian athletes on the steps of Belgrade’s City Hall saying: “I have had the honour and pleasure of being on this special balcony several times in my career, but each time you surprise and inspire me more and more. This is the most beautiful feeling that an athlete from Serbia can experience.”

It is not far from Novak Cafe and Restaurant, an eatery established by his parents.

“As Nole serves for victory, we serve you food with the taste of success,” reads the marketing for the establishment.

‘Nole’ is Djokovic’s nickname.
