Surfing legend Mick Fanning has revealed why he’s selling his Gold Coast beach house after it officially hit the market today.
The three-time world surfing champion, who grew up in Coolangatta and built his career on some of the world’s most formidable waves, paid $3.25m for the site in 2011, when it was home to a handful of old beach shacks.

Recognising the potential of its prime location, in 2014 Fanning transformed it into a rustic Hamptons-inspired retreat designed for relaxed coastal living.
“As soon as I saw the view, I was instantly sold,” Fanning said.
Set across a 1,030 sqm double block with direct access to the sand, Rolling Seas captures the essence of beachfront living with a three-level main residence and a self-contained guesthouse.
“Sometimes you walk into a house and feel like you can’t touch anything,” Fanning said.
“I wanted people to walk in and feel at home, especially when you get up the steps and see that view.”
Is this the best pool view on the Gold Coast?

Now the sun has set on the luxury beachfront property in Bilinga, on the southern Coast, for him, with the surf legend explaining it is “surplus to his needs”.
The house has five bedrooms, with standout features including an infinity pool, master suite with open ensuite and private oceanview balcony, yoga studio with sauna, media room, wine cellar, loft bedroom and lift.
There’s also a separate double-storey guest cottage with exposed brickwork and copper pipes, open-plan kitchen and private patio.

Fanning lived in the home before converting it into a high-end holiday rental styled by Sydney-based Three Birds Renovations, attracting visitors eager to experience the ultimate beachfront lifestyle.
“The people that have come and stayed have been really positive,” Fanning said.
“Everyone from friends to clients says the same thing – it’s been so refreshing and so relaxing.”
There’s plenty of space to entertain.
Kollosche agent Troy Dowker, who is leading the auction campaign, said beachfront estates of this scale and calibre are few along Australia’s east coast
“There’s nothing else like it,” Mr Dowker said.
“From Palm Beach south, you’d struggle to count a handful of comparable trophy homes like this.
“The land holding, the frontage, and the dual dwelling setup make it incredibly unique, not just on the Gold Coast but along the entire eastern seaboard.”
Imagine waking up to this view!
Another area to entertain.
With limited beachfront land available, Mr Dowker believes Rolling Seas was not only a spectacular home but also an exceptional long-term investment.
“A property like this isn’t just about lifestyle – it’s a significant landholding in a tightly held beachfront market,” he said.
“Whoever buys it will not only enjoy an incredible home but will also be securing a blue-chip asset for the future.”
Fanning, who has two young children with partner Breeana, is no stranger to the Gold Coast real estate scene with several properties to his name.
Last year he sold his Tugun investment ahead of auction for more than $3m.
