Racing industry giant Lloyd Williams has listed his penthouse at 1 Albert Rd, Melbourne, for sale.


Seven-time Melbourne Cup king Lloyd Williams is selling his penthouse in the city’s ‘Tower of Power’ for about $22m.

The property developer and business big wig founded Crown Casino in 1994 — now Australia’s largest casino — and is one of the nation’s biggest thoroughbred racehorse owners.

He won the Melbourne Cup in 1981, 1985, 2007, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2020.

Williams’ business Hudson Conway refurbished The Domain at 1 Albert Rd, also known as the ‘Tower of Power’, about 30 years ago and he has been living in its penthouse ever since.

Now, he’s selling the top-floor, four-bedroom abode with $20m-$22m price hopes.

Kay and Burton Stonnington chairman and listing agent Gerald Delany said this was the first time the penthouse had been offered to the market.

“It’s probably the only apartment of its kind in Melbourne, being the size that it is and it commands a sensational position with a beautiful northern view of the city and the Botanic Gardens,” he said.

“(It’s) one of the prestige addresses of Melbourne.”

One and a half floors of Melbourne’s The Domain building is for sale.


Mr Delany said it was an extraordinary size, spanning about 1280sq m over one and a half floors, including the terrace and balconies

He added that there was only a very limited number of apartments in the building which rarely came up for sale.

And already there’s been interest from international buyers and local Melbourne families in the top-end Melbourne pad.

The penthouse features marble floors, custom-made panelled walls and timber veneer cabinetry throughout.

Hudson Conway transformed the 1964 BP House office tower into luxury residences with a number of one to two-bedroom apartments sold by Mr Delany in 1993 for $150,250-$525,000, The Australian reported earlier.

Mr Delany said he recently sold another apartment in the building owned by the late Sir Roderick Carnegie, who was director of the Australian Advisory Board of General Motors, CSIRO, Group of Thirty and the Business Council of Australia.

The 16th-floor apartment was listed with a $6.5m-$7m price guide at the time in November.
