Looking for a grand entertainer that’s ready to delight your family for generations to come? This 1920-built return veranda villa at Prospect could be just what you’ve been searching for.

Vendors Bronwyn and Andrew Taylor bought the 30 Daphne St home about a decade ago and were immediately taken by its character, its sense of space and its potential for a grand renovation.

“We were living overseas and came back and found this one and thought it had a really nice feel about it and it felt like home from the minute we walked in,” Bronwyn says.

“It had good bones and a beautiful aspect from the yard.

The previous owners had done a big extension on it in the 80s and extended it out and up and put in a couple of bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and put on a new kitchen, dining and loungeroom and matched it in beautifully.

So when you looked at it from the outside it all looked original, but it was carpeted throughout and dated, so we modernised it and put in a brand new kitchen and we got Williams Burton Leopardi to create a design for a new kitchen area and put in something quite special that uses industrial finishes.

“We put in all WOLF appliances and a custom 3m marble island bench, and upstairs we had them create a beautiful master suite that we based on a hotel we used to stay in Hong Kong called The Upper House because we wanted it to have that hotel feel and wanted something quite luxurious.

“So we spent a lot of money up there and put in beautiful marble floors, hand-designed wallpaper, gilded lights and it turned out really well – probably better than expected.”

The home sits on a spacious 2043sqm allotment over two titles and has four bedrooms, a home office, two formal living areas, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space that opens to a terrace for alfresco dining.

Outside there’s a shed or rumpus room and a garage/workshop, and the home is surrounded by lawn, which could easily make way for a tennis court and a swimming pool, if desired.

“It’s a great entertainer – we had my mother’s 80th here, and have Christmases here and there’s plenty of room and the kids just disappear into their own space,” Bronwyn says.

“We really love it here and love being able to walk to everything at Prospect, and it was going to be our forever home, but it’s just the two of us and our two British bulldogs knocking around here and it really needs to be loved by a family who will enjoy it to its fullest.”

The expressions of interest campaign on the property, being sold by Orlanda Paglia and John Williams of Williams Real Estate, closed 2pm yesterday, with the vendors currently considering three offers.
