His resume is dotted with triumphs and victories and now former Port Adelaide captain Tom Jonas is hoping to add one more win when he takes his Norwood home to auction next month.
The 34-year-old star defender, who played for the Power from 2011 until the end of 2023 when he retired, is currently selling the 31 Prosser Ave home he bought with his then partner and now wife Millie in 2018.
“I was getting ready for a game against West Coast and all I was thinking about was: ‘I’ve just bought a house and have a massive mortgage’ instead of thinking about playing the game of footy,” he said.

The home, on the market through Tom Hector and Clinton Nguyen of Harris Real Estate with a $2.3m auction price guide, has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, open-plan living and a sparkling inground pool just moments from some of the state’s best restaurants and cafes.
“I grew up walking down The Parade and watching Norwood play Port on a Friday night and to be able to do that when I’m retired was a huge drawcard,” he said.
“Everything is at your fingertips and it’s such an easy life – you just walk and ride your bike everywhere, and you’re basically 15 minutes to everywhere by car,” he said.
As beautiful as the home is now, Jonas said it had taken some serious work to get it there, with the first step being to reintroduce the character features that had been removed during a previous owner’s renovation – as was common during renovations of the era.
“All of the cornices, ceiling roses and fireplaces had been removed and the timber windows had been replaced with aluminium, so really we spent our first six months putting all of that character back in and later did the big reno with the open-plan living and pool,” he said.
“It was about creating our own home and a place we could feel comfortable and have family and friends around to enjoy each other’s company – it doesn’t need to be a special occasion, it was just nice to be able to have people over whenever to use the pool and have the kids run around and have big family dinners.
“It was a refuge where I could just be myself.”
Jonas frequently used the home to mix business with pleasure, he said, inviting new recruits over for dinner as a way of acclimating them to the group.
“We’ll leave with some fantastic memories,” he said.
“Our first two children were born in that home and we’ve celebrated other big milestones there too – I proposed out the back before we started the renovation in the old market garden with the beautiful big old lemon tree and the veggie patch, and we’ve just seen our lives and our home evolve.”
With two active young children – Matilda and George – Jonas said it is time to move up to something with a bit more room.
“I’m keen to give them the big trampoline and the chicken coop and a bit more space to run around,” he said.
While he has stepped down from playing, Jonas isn’t resting on his laurels, working in a professional development position with the current PAFC mens playing group, doing leadership consultancy with the South Australian men’s cricket team, some schools and private enterprises; and working for the wine label Hey Diddle Wines he runs with fellow Port star Brad Ebert and winemaker Ben Chipman.
“It’s a bit of a circus,” Jonas joked.
The home will be auctioned on Saturday, February 1.
