One of the NRL Broncos longest serving stars Corey Oates has moved on quickly after not being re-signed by the Brisbane team, having set up his life after footy early.
Many fans thought Mr Oates quite hard done by after the Broncos decided not to re-sign him when he came off contract at the end of the 2024 season, but the one-club player has always been one of the better prepared of footy stars for this moment.
Mr Oates added his star power to the KIIS 97.3 lineup late last year after the Broncos confirmed they would not renew his contract, but has also been a savvy property investor from when he turned 20, setting himself up as a landlord.

The 30-year-old has just listed a four bedroom home he built on land bought in 2017 for rent at $610 a week with Goodna Property Management.
The seven-year-old property is in popular Collingwood Park, about half an hour’s drive from Brisbane CBD in the region’s west where rents have jumped dramatically since the pandemic.
That rent alone would bring in almost $32,000 gross a year for the ex-Bronco.
He had paid $190,000 for the Collingwood Park land site in October 2017, built the four bedder and rented it out the following year at $380/week or almost $20,000 annually.
His equity in the property has also spiked in that time, with the home now valued at circa $740,000 and as high as $807,000.
It’s a solid reward for getting into the property market as early as possible, with Mr Oates also recently listing his stunning home built in Samford Valley for sale.
Sonya Treloar of Ray White Sonya Treloar Properties has that sprawling property listed for private treaty sale at offers over $4.75m.
Mr Oates had bought a 9,560sq m block for $880,000 almost five and a half years ago to build his forever home. It is in the same area as fellow NRL player and injured Dolphins enforcer Thomas Flegler.
Mr Oates bought his first home when he was 20, a year and a half after he debuted for the Broncos – a four-bedroom house in Albany Creek on a large 815sq m block.
He’d paid $462,000 for the property in December 2014, selling it for $685,000 in April 2020 – a $223,000 gain and 48pc rise in price.

He also bought a three bedroom townhouse in Everton Park in 2017 for $610,000.
The valuation estimates on that property last year put it between $904,000 and $1.08m, which would be as much as a 77 per cent gain for him in the time he’s owned it.
If he rented it out, the median rental in the suburb is $565/week, which would be just over $29,000 gross income annually.
According to his Broncos biography, Mr “Oates is the longest-standing member of the current Broncos team, which is a testament to the calibre of player he is. With nine State of Origin appearances for the Maroons to his name, Oates uses his size, speed and strength to carry the ball forward as well as producing showstopping finishes.”
