A rural home designed to be a tropical escape complete with resort-style pool area, seasonal creek and oodles of outdoor living space has hit the market for the first time.
Ken Baulch and Jeni Jossaume bought the 17.3ha block at 55 & 53 Whittaker Rd, Noonamah, in 2001 and built their dream home on top of a ridge with stunning rural views.
“We designed it ourselves,” Mr Baulch said. “We very much wanted something tropical and it was important that it could all open up and catch the breezes.
“It has lots of outdoor living spaces, louvre windows and bi-fold doors.
“We also sited the home so it was on a nice spot on the block with a nice view.”
The home is spread across three separate pods connected by covered walkways. In the main pod there is a spacious open-plan living and kitchen area with timber floors and exposed beams.

The kitchen has an airconditioned pantry, plenty of prep space and stainless-steel appliances, while bi-fold doors open to the covered entertaining area and pool.
“We put the pool and big veranda in about five or six years after we built the house,” Mr Baulch said.
“With that extension we have near enough to 200sq m of outdoor living. “The idea for the covered pool was so that it wouldn’t get hot and there’s always a nice breeze through the outdoor living area.
“We’ve had heatwave conditions for the last few weeks but we haven’t had to go inside and turn on the aircon.”
In the second pod there are two storeys with a bedroom, bathroom and built-in wardrobes on each floor.
The third pod has a bedroom was access to a third bathroom plus a second bedroom that could be used as an office or living space.

Mr Baulch said the home was also designed for entertaining
“We wanted somewhere where friends and family could come and stay or just come for meals and enjoy the place,” he said.
“We’ve set it up with lots of lovely garden lighting and a little bit of flood lighting so it’s a beautiful spot at night as well.
“That view we have out across the valley is quite a long view and we can’t see a single light or building at night.
“It feels like you’re in the middle of the wildness but we’re only five minutes from a shopping centre.
“It’s a very pleasant place to live – almost resort-like until you remember you have to do the dishes.
“We feel blessed to live here, sometimes we have to pinch ourselves.”

There is 0.6ha of fenced garden and yard around the home, while the property has plenty of bush plus 500m of frontage on a conservation zone that protects a seasonal creek, which flows around six to seven months of the year.
“The block has it all – a creek, high bits, low bits, walking trails and no gamba grass,” Mr Baulch said.
“We’ve got about 5km of trails and we often go and have a picnic by the creek.”
The property, which is spread across two titles, also has 2.4km of well-maintained fire breaks, a 9kw solar system, a fully automatic irrigation system and a generator shed hardwired to the house electrical system.
The property is 7km from the Humpty Doo shops and schools and 15 minutes from Coolalinga.
