Former federal politician and tennis ace John Alexander has sold his Southern Highlands estate Iona Park after more than a year on the market and a $3.5m price drop.
The 36-ha estate in Iona Park Rd Moss Vale, with 20 head of cattle and 15 horses on agistment, along with two clay tennis courts and a pool was originally listed with a guide of $10m-$11m in October 2023.
Back then, Di Jones agent Bradley Cocks (husband of designer Collette Dinnigan) had pointed to a similar property nearby selling for about $10.8m.

The home was listed with a $10m-$11m guide in October, 2023.

But it didn’t sell, and for the past three months it’s been listed with a $7.5m-$8.25m guide via Anne Stone of McGrath Southern Highlands.
The sold sticker for the eight-bedroom property went up today, and when contacted Stone confirmed that it sold within that range to a buyer from the Southern Highlands.
Despite the price discount, Alexander has made a good profit on the property that cost $4,845,000 eight years ago.
It features both a pool and a tennis court.
It offers stylish interiors and eight bedrooms.
Still, he has upgraded the property’s stabling to provide for 14 horses and created an arena.
The 72-year-old is now planning to downsize to a smaller farm in the area.
Iona Park has been a nice little earner, renting out for more than $2000 a night on weekends with a minimum of two nights.
He’s now planning to spend more time with friends and family, but also play more golf and tennis.
The former politican bought the property for $4,845,000 in 2017.
It was on the market for 14 months.
As a tennis player, Alexander was ranked No.8 in the world in 1975. He reached the semi-finals in the Australian Open three times and won the doubles in 1975 and 1982.
He won Bennelong for the Liberal Party at the 2010 election and retained the seat in 2013 and 2016, resigning in 2017 due to constitutional ineligibility because of his dual citizenship of the UK.
He renounced his British citzenship and stood as the Liberal Party candidate at a byelection in December 2017, which he won. He retired from politics in November, 2021.
