While suburbs like Redbank Plains topped Queensland’s house sales in 2024, future home buyers looked elsewhere for where they most wanted to move.

Property tech firm InfoTrack has released their data on the most searched-for suburbs across the state this year, according to their property website InfoTrackGO.

Topping the list was the popular suburb of New Farm, which saw the most searches from those going to the website for real estate metrics and advice.

InfoTrackGO spokesperson Sandra Falzon said the suburb reached peak interest in March and April, and was popular for its heritage houses and architecturally designed offerings.

“New Farm topped InfoTrackGO’s list for good reason,” she said. “It’s in Brisbane’s CBD, close to iconic amenities like the River Walk and New Farm Park, with excellent schools and a vibrant dining scene. Increased investment and development in the area have boosted property availability, making it a prime choice for buyers.”

Suburbs in Brisbane made for nine of the suburbs in the top 10 list, which included 13 suburbs due to several tied spots.

The southwest Brisbane suburb of Chelmer and the Ipswich suburb of Raceview tied for second place. Ms Falzon said Chelmer was most well-known for its grand Queenslander homes, with Raceview’s popularity lying in the value for its location.

InfoTrack marked accessibility and affordability as the big reason behind these suburbs’ popularity, with each suburb representing something a little different.

“Inner-city areas like New Farm and Palm Beach attract those willing to downsize for a central lifestyle,” Ms Falzon said. “Meanwhile, buyers seeking larger properties are heading to suburbs like North Lakes or Raceview, where they can find affordable homes while staying connected to major transport routes.”

Throughout 2024, interest on InfoTrackGO shifted month to month, with central locations like Bowen Hills, Brisbane City and Teneriffe regularly appearing. Ms Falzon said this signalled a growing preference for downsizing into apartments and townhouses.

“For larger homes, buyers are looking further afield to areas like Ipswich and Moreton Bay, drawn by thriving communities, better accessibility, and affordability,” she said.

Other key observations from their property market update reports included a 60 per cent preference for freestanding houses over units from property buyers.
