A Great Ocean Road property with gold class views has wowed expectations after attracting an international audience to the incredibly rare opportunity.
The remarkable hillside home rebuilt in the aftermath of the Ash Wednesday bushfires hit the market for the first time on a prime Great Ocean Road bend.
The property sold for $2.52m.
The original four-bedroom house at scenic Cinema Point is one of a handful on the ocean side of the tourist route at Big Hill, between Fairhaven and Lorne.

You don’t need to leave the comfort of the living room to check the surf.
The home was the beloved sanctuary of Chilean academic Professor Claudio Veliz, who was so smitten with the location he and wife Maria Isabel moved halfway around the world to live there.
They were forced to start over just a few years later when the devastating 1983 bushfires destroyed the original home.
Now in his 90s, the one-time La Trobe University Dean and Boston University history professor is selling up to move back to his homeland.
Abercrombys director Jock Langley was in charge of the expressions of interest campaign at 1085 Great Ocean Road, Big Hill, which has once again caught the eye of offshore buyers.
“We had over 30 inspections of the property and we obtained multiple bids in the EOI process and it’s sold above expectations,” Mr Langley said.
“I wasn’t surprised at the level of interest because Cinema Point is such a unique spot.
The driveway can be hard to find, but that’s part of the attraction for those seeking seclusion.
Timber features heavily in the original 1980s interior.

“You’re on the south main of the Otway Ranges, but it also gets all-day good natural light.
“Some of the properties along there can fall into an afternoon shadow, whereas this one the geography was pretty unique. I think most people were taken by that, plus the extraordinary views.”
Mr Langley said some buyers were looking at the land value to start again, while others were keen on the house.
“The house needs a cuddle. It’s pretty tired and the people that have bought it will certainly add value to it in time,” he said.
An open-plan living space with a double height vaulted timber ceiling and a wall of windows framing the ocean view is a highlight of the home.
It links to a large deck that runs the length of the lower level where you can watch the waves roll in.
While the buyers are coming from Melbourne, the property attracted international.
“They came from everywhere. We had inquiry from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and then we also had interstate inquiry, as well as local and regional inquiries,” he said.
“We certainly attracted a global market that looked at this place, which is like when he purchased, he was at Oxford University and they saw it and flew out especially to buy it.”
