It was expected to be keenly contested by racing revheads but a Murraylands bush block has instead captured the attention of lifestyle buyers, selling in just 10 days.

The quick sale of Section 135 Pine Hut Rd, Sedan likely took motorbike enthusiasts by surprise, according to selling agent Stephen Thomas, who had anticipated strong interest from clubs and syndicate groups of riders looking to expand on the property’s existing motorbike tracks.

With no neighbouring houses and a block next door being used to drive V8 supercars, the property was well suited to motorbikes, with several sheds – albeit illegally constructed without council approval – for storage of bikes and camping gear, said Mr Thompson, of Marx Real Estate.

“It was ideally set up for groups of people to go up and ride motorbikes, whether recreationally or more seriously,’’ he said.

“Some months ago, clubs were even ringing me (to ask) do I have anywhere suitable for a motorbike club.

“This was ideally suited for that purpose. It’s fairly flat, there’s no rocks – the beauty of this one was it’s extremely safe if you have a young person riding.

“I just don’t think there was enough time to get that traction (interest from motorbike groups).

“At the end of the day, it went (sold) very, very quickly … to a private individual that has nothing to do with motorbike clubs.

“They have a couple of kids or grandkids that might ride but (the potential to create a large motorbike track) was not the main reason for buying it – they bought it simply to live there.’’

It was expected to be hotly contested by clubs and motorbike enthusiasts.

Mr Thompson said the 244-hectare property had sold for less than the $459,000 listing price, which had been set with “clubs and groups of people … that have a bit deeper pockets’’ in mind.

Up to six inquiries had been received, with the vendor keen to sell quickly.

“Everyone has different reasons for selling. (The owner) has moved interstate and, without going into too much detail, his father had POA (power of attorney), Mr Thompson said.

“That’s the second time I have sold that block. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea but it’s very attractive in its own way.’’

Mr Thompson said the property had once been a gathering place for local indigenous groups but had not formally been recognised as a site of cultural significance.

It’s also within the River Murray Dark Sky Reserve, the first dark sky reserve within Australia and one of only 21 in the world.
