The secret to saving for a house deposit is cars… or so says Tom Brownlie.
The dad-of-one has been hard at work building and selling vehicles, and now he and partner Meg Cornhill have purchased a new family home at Lilywood Landings.
The first home buyers are looking forward to moving to the new suburb in the fledgling city of Waraba in Caboolture with four-year-old daughter Marley.
Tom, 26, who works in the steel supply industry, said he was particularly keen to move to the new community, which is close to Rocksberg Park Heritage Reserve.
“Rocksberg is just around the corner from Lilywood, and there are a whole bunch of swimming holes there which I love,” he said.
“It’s going to be great for us to own our own house in a new suburb and it’s a great price – I can’t wait.”
The couple, who currently live at Bellmere in Moreton Bay were able to get the State Government’s first home buyers grant to help them on their property journey.
They have chosen a four-bedroom house and will move in next year.
The single level design features an open plan family, dining and kitchen space at the heart of the home, connecting directly with an outdoor entertaining area.
There is also a multi-purpose room, which is perfect for relaxing, and a separate study.
The master bedroom includes an ensuite and walk-in robe.

Childcare worker Meg, 27, said saving had been hard but worth it.
“Tom has done most of it by rebuilding and selling cars,” she said.
“We are all excited about moving to the area. It looks like it’s going to be stunning and choosing everything for the new house is so exciting.
“Marley is starting school next year and will be going to Bellmere State School, which is only a short drive away.
“Lilywood is really well connected and has everything we need within easy access.
“We’ve been telling all our friends about it and can’t wait to invite everyone over!”
